Jackpot

My husband doesn't like doing dishes. Correction: he loathes doing dishes. But he likes to help out around the house, especially if that night's dinner was tasty (it always is - you didn't doubt that, did you?), so the after-dinner dishes are his unofficial job. As much as I love to have a little less housework to do, I don't mind dishes so much, so you can bet that if I take pity on his poor soul and do them myself, I milk it for all it's worth.

"You know, those dishes kind of wore me out. I sure could use a foot rub."

"Gosh, it's been a long day. I would love it if someone were to put in a movie and bring me a bowl of popcorn."

"I love that you love that I keep a clean house. Know what else I love? When you put the kids to bed while I play Tetris on the iPod."

Of course, sometimes I dispense with the gentle hints and get right down to business.

"I did the dishes. Scratch my back."

"See those clean dishes? You owe me big time."

"Remember this morning when the kitchen counter was all cleared off because I did dishes last night? Yeah, I hope that good feeling lasts, because the kids drove me crazy today. I'm leaving and I won't be back until they're sound asleep. Leftovers are in the fridge."

Luckily enough, he's pretty okay with it most of the time. Like I said, he really hates doing the dishes. Come to think of it, his second most dreaded chore, paperwork, is also something I usually do. He totally hit the jackpot when he married me...

But you know what? So did I.

We must be twins. I milk everything.

My birthday is in less than a month, so anytime I want anything, I use the old "It's my birthday" card.

You DID hit the jackpot. And I would gladly trade dishes for a footrub any night of the week!

Haha! I think we all milk those dishes (or laundry, or paperwork or whatever) for all they're worth as often as possible! Glad your husband is a great sport about it!

I need to start doing this... of course, maybe if I actually had the house looking spectacular when he came home it would work better?

I wish I could milk it. My husband is so worn out after work that he is like a zombie.

I like to cook and my husband likes to do dishes, so that's probably why we got married. Oh, and also, we love each other. That, too.

It's the little things that you miss when your partner isn't there or you don't have one.
Footrubs, backrubs, cuddles, "fair exchange is no robbery" as they say.
Enjoy.

I have learned that bragging about my husband creates all kinds of problems, so I'll just be quiet about how he does the dishes and the vacuuming and the mopping and the laundry and the bills and THEN gives me the backrub at the end of my very hard and tiring day.

Nope. I won't say a word. ;-)

I love this post. My husband doesn't loathe helping, he just doesn't think about it too much. I love your straight to the point hints. I use those more than the other kind. I too HATE the dishes so you are a wonderful wife!

My husband happily does any dishes if I cook. It is the best deal yet.

You really did get lucky, didn't you? Although I doubt it was much of a gamble.

Hilarious post. I sure love you in a non-creepy way.

Great milking. But I like it best when you just tell it straight!

I would just die from total shock and surprise if my husband ever did the dishes after dinner!
