Hear, hear!

As a middle child, it goes against my entire philosophy of life to say that in this world, things are pretty much fair. But I think it might be true. Maybe not in day-to-day things, but if you look at the big picture, the universe tends to even things out. It's why high school geeks end up with totally hot spouses. I'm telling you, I'm on to something here...

So here's the deal. I have no sense of smell and my sense of taste is mildly compromised as a result. I wear contacts with a prescription of -7.50. (In case that means nothing to you, take a pencil and draw a circle on a Post-it. Hold it at arms length. Now imagine you can't see the circle. At all. That's how well I see without contacts.)

It is for these reasons that I truly believe the universe will let me keep my hearing, even when I'm old and grey and all my friends are croaking, "Eh, what's that? Speak up, sonny!" And it's why I can say with 100% certainty that my ears were not deceiving me when I heard the boy in front of me at Fred Meyer turn to his mother and say, "Hey, girl. What time is Melrose Place on?"

Okay. Maybe 98%.

Since my eyesight is bad, I can also hear many things...like the construction outside my house, my husband snoring, and my daughter when she stirs at night...even when others cannot.

What a great gift.

I agree with you. I believe when one sense is lacking the others pick up the slack and sharpen up.

(I don't have a bucket like that, but I thought it looked enticing on a hot summer day!) :)

My left eye is -5.25. I'm getting there!

I had the same vision (or lack thereof) as you...then I got LASIK! Best thing ever. By far!

And may I just say, that my hearing is still good so fortunately I have that. Or sometimes, I think it's unfortunate. I slept with ear-muffs on last night cuz my family had the TV on too loud in the other room...

My hubby is an Optometrist so I KNOW how bad that is - yowza! Then again, I have a friend who is -9.25. Crazy, eh?

And that kid's comment is just killing me here!

Love your lead in --

Sometimes, only sometimes, I wish I didn't hear the things some kids say.

Have I really lived long enough for the networks to be recycling tv shows now?

I hear you. I'm the one with a -10.50 prescription, but I have a fairly significant hearing loss in one ear. The other one quite over compensates for it, but still. However I never had to wear braces, so I suppose it all works out in the end.

I'm going to have to settle for keeping my sense of smell - because my vision is SHOT (though LASIK is looking better and better...) and my hearing... well, it's a "hilarious" joke in my house to say weird things that sort of sound like normal things (if that makes ANY sense) and see if I'll react...

hmmm... now that I think about it, my sense of touch also sucks... (really, not even kidding - no feeling in my fingertips!)

Great - so I'll be smelling and tasting REALLY well to make up for all the other losses :)

p.s. - it was SO good to see you popping up around the blogs today - missed ya!

Melrose Place is back on? Is it on SoapNet? Suh-weeet! Now I can get my fill of the original 90210 AND Melrose!

I am glad that there are people out there with eyesight worse than mine! My right eye is -4.75 and the left eye is -3.75. Sigh. I want Lasik!

He hasn't traded up to "Army Wives" or "Desperate Housewives"?

Oh for shame!

I can't hear and I will have to join the world of glasses in a few years. Good think I can still touch and smell (although at the moment, the last one isn't as desirable because my baby needs to be changed).

I see about as badly as you do and my hearing is going so does that mean we're even? (you funny, funny girl, you!)

I think I'd rather lose my hearing. Especially when I think of retiring and having to listen to hubby all.freaking.day.long.... ;)

Now that is too funny! Although I can totally see one of my kids calling me girl in public just to see what I would do.

My eyesight is good, my hearing is fine...I just have other body parts that have jumped ship after having 4 kids. That's OK, I'm still here.

PS: Thanks for vising my blog. Stop by for a chocolate chip waffle anytime.
