Last week, on the way home from running an errand, I saw an interesting advertisement.
On the bottom, there was a phone number. And you know, I think I might call. I can't say for certain how the conversation will proceed, but I'm thinking something like this:
"Hi, I'm calling about the ad I saw that told me I could make a difference and I had a few questions. First off, what kind of difference are we talking about here? Because I've always liked helping people learn new things. Could I do something like that? Or what about teaching valuable life skills like getting along with peers, responsibility, and good communication? Would that be a possibility? I'm actually pretty good with money, too. Maybe fiscal analysis could be part of my job description.
What's that? You have some questions for me? Oh, sure, go ahead! Yes, I'd say I know a bit about prioritizing my time... I enjoy challenges, sure... My organizational skills? Well, I don't want to brag, but they're impeccable. You know, it's funny you should ask - I can work well in a loud, chaotic setting.
Gosh, this all sounds really, really great! Here's the thing, though: it seems I'm already doing all of that stuff. What say I give you another ring tomorrow morning around nine-ish and we'll hash out the details of my salary. Right now I have two adorable children vying for my attention, so I'd better get back to that whole making-a-difference thing.
Toodles!"

hey, have them give my wife a call too!! this sounds great!!
awesome... have them send me a check too kk? :)
Who's the genius?
I'm going to guess some 23ish male who just signed up for an exciting Amway career opportunity.
I think it is scary that anyone thinks women can only make a difference if they get out of the house. But you said that already and so much better than I.
Ha! You are OVERQUALIFIED!! :)
Really, though, on a more serious note, I think it's great for mothers who have to work to realize that they can work from home. And it CAN make a difference for their kids. (unfortunately in our house the main difference is that mom is more stressed out, but at least I'm here while I'm writing, right?)
The most good you can do is in the home. I love this post...
LOL, so I saw that same sign and did call....
First off, seriously, like we don't make a difference already being the busy mom's that we are. I figured if it was like Jetblue from home, I'd give it shot.
My conversation went something like this..."Hi I was calling about your ridiculous sign on Parks, was curious to know what the job entailed?" Long story short...it's a waste of money. It's a ridiculous MLM. Just so you know not to waste your time. I asked the guy if it was a Multilevel thing, or if you actually fill out a W2 and clock in and work an honest payed day...man I love it when those guys back peddle and try to sound like it's "real work" I'd rather stay with my work that makes a difference too :)
Thanks for this post...it helped me realize that my job is definitely making a difference.
Your conversation is a little more friendly than mine would have been. Come on, people!!
UH HUH. Really Moms! You can start making a difference if you work from home!
Stupid sign.
