I keep stumbling across posts bemoaning the end of summer and all that that entails. It seems some of you don't even like the autumn months because it means you're one step closer to winter! I guess I didn't realize how hard winter can be for so many people - the shorter days, the snow, the cold, and in some cases, the depression. For those of you who are grieving, I offer my sincerest sympathies.
I cannot, however, empathize.
Hi. My name is Becky and I have spring-onset Seasonal Affective Disorder.
It's true. Spring and summer are... well, they're okay, I guess. March and April typically aren't great months for me. I get lethargic, irritable, weepy, and I deal with it by eating whatever isn't nailed down. I've been told by many people that I must not enjoy summer because I live in Alaska, where the summers are sometimes referred to as "green winter." But that's simply not true. I've lived in places where there are long weeks of sunshine and ninety-five degree weather. When it's warm and sunny, I'm all about getting outside to enjoy it. It's just that after two months or so, I'm done. I've had my fill.
Cue September. Ah, September! The air is crisp, the leaves are changing, school has started - I love it all. And the best is still on the way. Bundling up to go scrounging for Halloween candy? Awesome. Alternating between eating half a pie plus a turkey leg and shoveling snow to burn the calories on Thanksgiving? Nothing better. The whole Christmas season? 'Nuf said. Of course, it's not just the holidays, either. There are snow caves and ice skating and sledding, oh my! Hot chocolate, big fat snowflakes, smiling like a mad woman as I scrape the snow off my car in the Target parking lot (and then the next two cars over just because I can), fluffy scarves, snowball fights... I really do love it all. Winter gives me a bit of a buzz.
So, friends, I'm sorry that you're sorry that summer is at an end. My life, however, just took a turn for the better.
P.S. If you feel the need to take me off the list of blogs you read because I used the words "Christmas," "snow," and "ice" in the month of September, I'll try my best to be understanding. Jack Frost, however, might smite you down.

I love summer! I love the heat and the green and the LONG days...I'm already dreading the coming of colder weather.
But don't worry-I think we can still be blog friends:)
I love spring and fall. Winter is my LEAST favorite season. Although, I do have some pretty cute winter clothes.
we don't actually GET a true winter here... I've been known to grumble when visiting anywhere that snows - but maybe I wouldn't mind it so much if I parked next to you and you cleaned off the windshield. Being a shorty I always leave a big line o' ice down the center!
I'm right there with you! I'm ready for a change... and while clearing the driveway of snow might be a pain, at least it doesn't have to be done weekly no fail (like mowing).
:D
I LOVE autumn. Love it. However winter is not my favorite. And I practically live in Alaska as far as that goes...but I will survive, I know.
My children LOVE winter as much as I love fall. So, they're good. My 4 year old has been asking when it will snow since June. It only stopped in May, for heaven's sake!
Yes, you and I don't see eye to eye, viva la difference.
My wife loves the winter and I'm still married to her so I think I'll keep you on my list.
Spring and fall are my favorite seasons.
Ummmm . . . still not moving to Alaska. I think I'll revel my eighty degree weather for another month. Or so.
I don't mind winter it's the depression and lack of light that gets me. I love how you put it though. It definitely sound way more appealing how you said it :)
Speaking of the leaves changing, are you ready for pics on Saturday, I have you down still. I was hoping you were still game. Give me a call when you get this, if you can't get me on my home phone, call my cell :)7755314. Let me know yay or nay. We can do school/couple/family/whatever and I can do it for pretty affordable. Give a ring
BRING ON THE AUTUMN!! Hip, hip hooray for sweater weather! After growing up in Hawaii, where the sun always shines, even when it's raining, I was ready for some REAL weather. I love the fall, with all the colors and breezes and bouquets of sharpened pencils! I'm not so sure how I feel about snow, yet -luckily we don't get much of that in Oregon -- but heck, I've been listening to Christmas music for the past month!
I totally agree and you've captured the essence of all that is good in winter here. And I loooooove fall, too. I do not enjoy heat AT ALL so when it's over 80 I hate life (especially here where it's quite humid) I prefer to be able to do anything I want and NOT sweat.
I just went out in the foggy, misty morning air and spent ten minutes admiring the spider webs all around our fence. They are absolutely gorgeous in the fog.
